White Stallion

The Vision

White Stallion is a 14,000-square-foot, three-story English Tudor in Malibu — six bedrooms, ten baths, two guest master suites, and an underground wine cave with its own library and rec room. Built entirely in brick and precast, the house was conceived as a permanent thing: Gothic cathedral windows, masonry mass, and a silhouette that reads as if it has stood for a century.

The Roderick Approach

A masonry home of this scale is an engineering problem before it is a beautiful one. Brick and precast across three stories demand structural steel and framing that most owners will never see, sequenced and tied so the Gothic glazing and the wine cave below can carry the loads above.

We also built White Stallion to survive its hillside: an impressive property-wide water system rings the estate, and across multiple Malibu wildfires the fire line has jumped clean over the building. The character is what you see. The reason it is still standing is what you don't.
