The Vision

Lumen is named for what it does with light. Perched on the high meadow at Benloch Ranch above the Jordanelle valley, its double-height glass gables catch the first and last light of the day — sunrise over the Uintas on one face, alpenglow off the Wasatch on the other. Vertical cedar, cream fieldstone, and black standing-seam steel hold that glass in a composition that reads calm from the street and comes alive from inside.

The Roderick Approach

The stone base isn't a veneer gesture — it grounds the home into a sloped, exposed high-meadow lot where wind, snow, and freeze-thaw are the design brief. Deep gables carry the snow load, the covered deck extends the great room into the view for three seasons, and the glass walls are placed to frame the valley without ever cooking the interior. Quiet from the road. Unforgettable from the ridge.

The glass gables are what you see from the road. What they were built for is this — a cedar vault that runs the length of the house, a fieldstone chimney carried through two storeys, and white oak worked from the kitchen to the scullery to the bunk room.
